Excursions
Day One – This morning we take a ride on the scenic steamhauled Bluebell Railway. The 11-mile line was the UK’s first preserved standard gauge railway, with the first section opening in 1960. There are more than 30 steam locomotives and a collection of almost 150 carriages and wagons, most of them pre-war. In the afternoon we visit the National Trust’s Sheffield Park and Garden, a 120-acre listed garden laid out in the 18th century.
Day Two – This morning’s entrance and audio tour around The Royal Pavilion. The Royal Pavilion was built as a seaside pleasure palace for King George IV, mixing Regency grandeur with the visual style of India and China. In the afternoon free time in Brighton. ‘The Lanes’ are Brighton’s famous twisting alleyways full of jewellers, antiques and designer boutiques. Brighton Pier brings back the days of yesteryear with arcade games, a funfair and the ubiquitous fish ‘n’ chips.
