Day One – Travel North – Strathpeffer
Heading north this morning, stop for lunch in the Scottish borders at Moffat with time to look round before travelling through the wonderful highland scenery over the dramatic Drumochter pass and Inverness. Late afternoon see the welcome lights of the Highland Hotel with time to settle in to your room before dinner is served.
Day Two – Loch Ness Cruise and Inverness
After a hearty full Scottish breakfast, set off for the legendary Loch Ness, this cruise will take us across the deep, mysterious waters of Loch Ness. Enjoy fascinating facts and legends through onboard audio and keep an eye on the sonar for any signs of ‘Nessie’! Don’t forget your camera, as this hour-long cruise offers stunning sights from a unique perspective. Once back on dry land, we head to Inverness, the capital of the Highlands. Here, you can stroll across the scenic footbridges or explore the beautiful collection of small islands in the River Ness, connected by charming Victorian bridges or just enjoy some retail therapy in the bustling city of Inverness! Return to the hotel for dinner.
Day Three – Thurso
This morning, we bid farewell to our hosts and journey north to the Royal Burgh of Dingwall and board the ScotRail train service to Thurso. The Far North Line takes us along the coast, passing the Dornoch Firth, the rolling countryside of the Kyles of Sutherland with spectacular views of the North Sea. As we reach Thurso, the most northerly town in mainland Scotland our coach will be waiting at the railway station to transfer us to the Station hotel for the next 2 nights. Time to settle into your room before dinner is served.
Day Four – Orkney Isles
Today, we embark on a short journey to Gills Bay to board the Pentland Ferry. Keep an eye out for wildlife during the sail, including seals, dolphins, and possibly whales, as we cross the Pentland Strait. We’ll also pass the islands of Stroma and Swona before reaching St Margaret’s Hope on Ronaldsay. On arrival on the island, a local guide will meet us for a full-day tour of the Orkneys, featuring major sites including the Churchill Barriers, the Italian Church, and the capital, Kirkwall. There is no other place in Britain quite like the Orkneys, to discover ancient civilisations, world-famous archaeology and unrivalled island scenery. After a fascinating day, return to the ferry and made our way back to Gills Bay and the hotel in time for dinner.
Day Five – Dundee
We bid farewell to our hosts in Thurso this morning and begin our journey south along the A9, Scotland’s longest road. Our first stop is in the charming village of Golspie, nestled on the North Sea coast. After a brief comfort stop, we continue to Pitlochry for a delightful lunch break. Our journey then takes us to our final hotel, the Landmark, located on the outskirts of Dundee. Time for a rest before dinner is served.
